The
Bob Perspective
Welcome
one and all to the very first issue of the Bob Perspective. I would
like to thank Jason for allowing me to have my little corner in his
great site.
But
anyways!! Enough with the boot licking. Jason and I will be doing our
critiques of the same movie. Will it be the recommended movie? Or
possibly the stink hole "Movies to avoid
like
the Plague"?
Only time will tell.
The
first Bob perspective movie...............ever!!!
The
Departed
Starring:
Jack
Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon
Directed
by: Matrin
Scorsese
RATED
R (for
lot's o' blood and lot's of "F" Bombs...oh and
drugs....can't forget the sweet sweet drugs.)
Original
Release: 2006
Genre:
Drama
The
Low Down: The
Movie is about Billy Constigan (DiCaprio) and Colin Sullivan (Damon),
two men on different sides with the same objective...Find the Rat.
Constigan a man on the law's side infiltrating the Mob and Sullivan on
the Mob side infiltrating the Police. Who will find who first?
Scorecard:
Acting:
This was The Departed's greatest greatest field. The wickedly sexy
Leonardo DiCaprio stunned everyone with this blockbuster performance.
He really did his homework studying this extremely hard character. He
expressed the conflict inside him of having to lie, cheat, and even
kill to convince a Mob boss that he is "for real"
brilliantly and should have been praised far more than he did. I think
I'm all hot and bothered now. This is not to take away from Matt
Damon who had a similar role. Matt Damon put in a good effort and it
paid off. He was convincing, and that's all he had to me. Jack
Nicholson played his usual somewhat crazy and extremely bad hair
styled character (Can you say "About Schmidt"?) He had is
moments of glory like his tirade about not having to have Pu**y
anymore....absolutely enlightening. (1)
Direction: It's
about damn time Martin Scorsese got something at the academy. He has
brought such great films as Gangs of New York (to
hell with you Jason I thought the movie was great!),
The Aviator, and the GoodFellas. I was totally interested in this
movie. I was at the edge of my seat surprised my twists and thought
the general style of the movie was done extremely well done. Bravo
Martin, you deserved your Oscar. (1)
Story: This was a
fairly good story. I wasn't completely wowed by the ingenuity of it,
but it wasn't another cheap rehash of the same thing. Hard category
for this movie, but I have to go with a (1/2)
Expectations: I
thought this was going to be an "OK" movie when i first saw
it. I've never been a Jack Nicholson fan. Poor Matt Damon doesn't get
anything great either. My only hope was Leo. I was truly surprised by
this film. (1)
Boring?:
Absolutely not.
like I said earlier, I was very intrigued by this movie. I thought it
flowed well and it didn't feel like it's fairly long running time of 2
hours and 30 Minutes. There are action moments and there are buildup
moments, both used properly, you get The Departed. (1)
The
Wild Card is a category of my own creation that if a movie deserves
certain recognition (no matter how bad the movie) it should be
rewarded (possible 1/2 point)
Wild Card: This
movie was great in it's own right, but, other than some of Jack's one
liners, I don't feel that this movie had anything that I would
consider Wild Card worthy. What is Wild Card worthy? Just keep coming
back and find out.
Final
Score: 41/2
out of 5
The Bob Perspective: This
was one of my favorite movies of all time. It was well acted, well
directed, and had good flow to the movie. It was continuing the great
momentum that Leonardo DiCaprio is building and one day he will be
recognized with a shiney new Oscar. I'm sure Jason won't agree with
some of my thoughts, but who cares, this is my Perspective which is
the only perspective worth calling...The Bob Perspective
