Casino Royale (2006)
Starring: Daniel Craig Directed by: Martin Campbell Rated PG-13 Genre: Action Synopsis: James Bond has just become a Double 0 and is thrust into a poker game to stop a money launderer from earning his money back. My Thoughts: This movie was very enjoyable, full of action and witty dialogue. This was an excellent way to revamp the tired James Bond franchise. Scorecard Acting- Daniel Craig in his first appearance as James Bond did an excellent job! I was very impressed with the way he portrayed Bond. He did a better job than Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby (which really isn't saying much...) Personally, I think that he was better than Pierce Brosnan (although Brosnan was a good Bond, getting saddled with crappy stories.) But I think that he has the potential to be just as good if not better than Roger Moore and Sean Connery. Great Acting job. (1) Direction- Martin Campbell also directed one of my favorite Bond movies Goldeneye. I really liked the direction of this movie. There were a few parts that could have been cut down some, and a few parts that really were not needed, but overall it was on the plus side of direction. (1/2) Story- I really liked the story. The film makers stayed close to what the Ian Fleming story told, and was very impressed with the way this played out. With that said, there were a few times where this film just tried to do too much with the story. James Bond as a rookie 00 was great, and they played that well, but there were some parts (like the beginning in Madagascar) that did way too much. (1/2) Expectations- I wasn't sure that Daniel Craig would be a good Bond. I have enjoyed most of his movies, so I knew that he had the potential to be great. But then again, I saw the original Casino Royale movie, and was depressed, this film was so much better than I hoped for. (1) Boring?- Are you kidding me? This is a revamp of James Bond, how could it be boring? While the film did have a pretty long running time (145 minutes or so) most of the movie was telling a great story, and some great action scenes and was just overall great stuff. (1) Final Score: 4 out of 5 Final Thoughts: I was very satisfied with this James Bond film. After the bad taste of the last few Brosnan Bond films, this is great stuff. Kudos have to go to Daniel Craig who silenced ALL of his critics. If you are a Bond fan, go see this NOW, if you aren't much of a Bond fan, you should still go see this movie for the great story line and the fun action, if you don't like action movies, go see this movie just to see Daniel Craig and his washboard stomach and baby blue eyes. (For all you women out there.)
