Remember, this is the movie that is considered to be the greatest movie of all time. Citizen Kane Starring: Orson Welles Directed by: Orson Welles Released in 1941 Synopsis: Charles Foster Kane is a newspaper publisher that becomes a millionaire and slowly alienates everyone he loved. He then dies a lonely man in a giant house. My Thoughts: With this being the "greatest movie ever made" there are going to be tons of arguments about my ratings, so lets just get one with it... Scorecard: Acting: The acting in this movie was good, but not great. Not being a huge fan of Orson Welles I really can't complain, it was good enough not to hurt the movie a lot. (1/2) Direction: The way this movie was directed and edited together is what made this movie such a great innovation. It was fantastic for its time (1941) and still holds its own today. (1) Story: The story of Charles Foster Kane is supposed to be a parody of a real life person William Randolph Hearst. The story starts out with Kane dying, and works its way around it. Very well told story and was executed very well. (1) Expectations: You have got to have high expectations watching this movie, because so many people consider it to be the greatest movie ever made. The sad thing is it falls kind of short of expectations. (1/2) Boring?: The movies isn't all that long (only 119 minutes) but it seems to drag on. It feels like watching a three hour movie, so it is very slow, but there is a reason because this movie is telling a very detailed story of a man's life. (1/2) Final Score: 3 1/2 out of 5 Final Thoughts: While this movie was good, it just wasn't the greatest movie ever in my opinion. For its time, I can see why people would claim it was great. The way this movie was set up was groundbreaking. The story was detailed and well told.
