 Rated G

 Genre: Science Fiction

 Original Release Year: 1956

Synopsis: A ship has not been heard from in twenty years after landing on a distant planet, so another ship is sent out to find out what happened to the original ship, once the recovery ship lands, they find out that all but two people have died, a Doctor and his daughter. Soon, strange things begin to happen and they are forced to abandon the planet or face total destruction.

My Thoughts: This is one of the most timeless Sci-fi classics, and one of my personal favorite movies ever. This movie has the chance to be a 5 star movie.

   Scorecard

Acting- Leslie Nielson plays Commander John Adams in perhaps his greatest acting job of his career. While his acting wasn't great per se, the job he did with this character was incredible just because he fit so well. Walter Pidgeon played Dr. Morbius and Anne Francis played Altaira Morbius both did very good jobs in their roles, Pidgeon played the poor doctor that has been enthralled by an ancient alien technology, and Anne Francis is his daughter and plays the part of the innocent young lady very well. (1)

Direction- I really could not find any fault in the direction of this movie, and believe me, I looked. I was very impressed with the way this movie flowed as well as made sense. This is one of the best jobs in direction of a film I have seen, plus all the special effects were awe inspiring in the day, and still have me wondering how they did some of the shots. (1)

Story- This story was very well written, but what do you expect? This film was written with the thought of William Shakespeare's The Tempest. (1)

Expectations- The first time I saw this movie I was expecting this to be a no-brain comedy like most Leslie Nielson movie had been the last few years. I was pleasantly surprised with what I got. This film was very good and not at all what I expected. (1)

Boring?- This category is what always seems to hurt ratings. With a running time of only 98 minutes, it seemed a lot longer. There were a few crucial scenes that seemed to drag, and it seemed to really hurt the final product. While the movie as a whole was not boring, there were a few scenes that were and hurt the flow of the film. (1/2)

   Final Score: 4 1/2 out of 5

Final Thoughts: This is one of the most entertaining movies I have ever seen. It is a timeless classic that is enjoyable for mostly anyone. It is one of the movies that you HAVE to see at least once in a lifetime, just for the fact that they had awesome effects for the 1950's and had Leslie Nielson doing a great job in acting (which you just don't see anymore.) If you haven't seen this movie, you should go out and rent it, I promise that if you are a fan of film, you will enjoy it.
