Starring: Ben Affleck and
Adrien Brody
Directed by: Allen Coulter
Rated R
Genre: Drama
Synopsis: Hollywood's
greatest mystery comes to the screen. Actor George Reeves known for his
work as Superman, was found shot in his house, an apparent suicide, or was
it? This is the story of what lead up to Reeves and his death, and what
followed afterwards.
My Thoughts: Since this movie
was being sold as a mystery, the NO ending came as NO surprise to me. I
was shocked however with the story and the acting ability of some of the
actors that were in this movie. Lets see how it gets ranked.
Scorecard:
Acting-
Ben Affleck played as George Reeves, and this has to be one of his best
performances, I was very impressed with what he brought to this movie.
Adrien Brody played the private detective investigating the death of
Reeves, and he did a great job as a man who has nothing left to lose, Bob
Hoskins played an MGM exec. and did a marvelous job in his role. The
acting in this movie was just great all around! (1)
Direction-
This category is very difficult. There wasn't a whole lot of direction to
this movie, but the problem is, I really don't think that there was
supposed to be. Kind of strange the way it works out. I cannot give it a
full star, because there were parts that were not directed well, but the
movie as a whole was well done in an awkward kind of way. (1/2)
Story-
I went to see this movie with some friends. One of them said that this was
a terrible story to do a movie about. While I agree to an extent, the way
this story was tweeked a little to make sense and to be entertaining, it
wasn't all that bad. George Reeves was found dead with a bullet wound to
the head, it looks like a suicide, but there is some evidence that may
suggest otherwise. It is interesting enough to keep you wondering if it
was suicide or something more sinister. The ending didn't help the movie
any. My friends suggested that the movie makers should have come up with
their own conclusion instead of making a no ending to the movie, but with
family members of the people involved, I am kind of glad they didn't. (1/2)
Expectations-
I expected this movie to be watchable, but nothing grand. While, I was a
little surprise with what I got, it really wasn't enough to be better than
what I was expecting. (1/2)
Boring?-
Sadly, Yes. But you really can't expect a story like this to be action
packed and keep you on the edge of your seat. Most dramas are boring. This
is no exception, but the story was good enough were it didn't bore you to
tears. (1/2)
Final Score: 3
out of 5
Final Thoughts: While this
movie is not the best movie I have seen this year, it was still
entertaining. The acting was very impressive. If you are an Affleck fan or
a Brody fan, go see this movie in theaters. If you aren't wait until it
comes out to the cheap theaters or maybe to your local video store.
