Jaws

Starring: Richard Dreyfuss
Directed by: Stephen
Spielberg
Rated PG
Genre: Action
Synopsis: A shark begins to
terrorize the small community of Amity Island, so the community gets
together to hire a shark hunter to take care of the shark.
My Thoughts: This movie is
one of the most hyped films ever made. It does not live up to the
expectations everyone says it does. I know that I may get a lot of hate
mail for this entry, so be it. Let us see the score.
Scorecard
Acting-
I have never been a fan of Richard Dreyfuss, and this movie is partially
why. His acting was dryer than a burnt piece of toast. Roy Scheider was
okay, but to be honest, not good enough to carry this movie. (0)
Direction-
I did not have any problem with the direction of this movie. It seemed to
go where it should have, and everything clicked well enough. (1)
Story-
The story was pretty good. It is based on a true story of a string of
shark attacks that happened in the early 1900's in New Jersey of all
places. I enjoyed the way the story was told, with the shark as the main
antagonist, with the shark hunter never really getting the best of him
until the end. It flowed really well. (1)
Expectations-
I still do not understand how this can be in the AFI's top 50 movies ever.
It ranked in at 48. It was number 2 in the best thrillers ever, and I just
do not see it. This movie flopped in the expectation department in my
eyes, this movie was way too over hyped and fell flat. (0)
Boring?-
This movie had a running time of a little over two hours, but it seemed a
lot longer than that. All but 15 minutes of this movie was interesting. I
am not good at math, but that is a low percentage of the movie that was
actually entertaining. This movie was way too boring. (0)
Final Score: 2
out of 5
Final Thoughts: This movie
was too over hyped and too boring to come out with a good rating. I
understand that this movie was an academy award nominee for best picture,
and lost, but so was Chicago, and that one actually won. This movie was
not thrilling, was not exciting and was not good. I understand that I am
from a different era of film appreciation, this movie was released 7 years
before I was even born, but it doesn't matter, because no matter what crap
is wrapped in, it is still going to smell bad after awhile.
