Jerry Maguire

Starring: Tom Cruise, Cuba Gooding Jr. , Renee Zellweger

 Directed by: Cameron Crowe

 Rated R

 Genre: Comedy/Romance

Synopsis: A high profile sports agent is fired, and he starts his own company, but he can only convince one of his sports stars to come with him, and one employee to come work for him.

My Thoughts: While reading the synopsis, this movie looks really bad. With tons of memorable quotes and really good acting, this movie is very highly recommended.

   Scorecard

Acting- Tom Cruise gives his best performance since Top Gun, Renee Zellweger gives her breakthrough performance that makes her a star, and Cuba Gooding Jr. gives an academy award winning performance for best supporting actor. These three carried this movie, and if you really enjoy watching a movie just for acting, this one is it. (1)

Direction- This movie started off a little slow, but it really picked up, it was directed where it really should have gone, but there were a few times where it stalled a little, those times kind of hurt the quality of the movie. (1/2)

Story- The story really doesn't sound all that appealing. It's about a sports agent, how exciting can that movie be? This movie was well written as a romantic comedy, with some really good dialogue. (1)

Expectations- I saw this movie after the Academy Awards. So it was hyped up a lot thanks to the awards show. I was not disappointed, but it did not surpass my expectations for it. (1/2)

Boring?- This category always hurts movies. With a running time of 140 minutes or so, this movie has lots of down time, but with some really good writing, it helped the movie move along. But there were some parts that dragged just a little, and those parts were right in the middle of the movie, where you really don't want the story to drag too much. (1/2)

   Final Score: 3 1/2 out of 5

Final Thoughts: This movie is known for the quotable lines, such as "Show me the money" and "You complete me" and "You had me at hello", great writing from the screenwriters. This is a very enjoyable movie, and if you love watching great acting, see this movie, you will not be let down in the acting department!
