Land
of the Blind
(no poster sorry!)
Starring: Donald Sutherland
and Ralph Fiennes
Directed by: Robert Edwards
Rated R
Genre: Political Thriller
Synopsis: In a bleak future
a fascist dictator declares himself president for life after his father
(also was a president for life) dies. A political prisoner tries to rid
the world of the fascism that is caused by this dictator, only to create a
more fascist state.
My Thoughts: This movie was so
brain-dead it made my head hurt. How could a left wing nut like Donald
Sutherland play an extreme fascist? At the beginning of the film it was very
satisfying seeing Sutherland in a jail cell surrounded by his own filth looking
like a hideous grizzly adams type.
Scorecard
Acting-
The only saving grace in this category was the man that played Junior (the
dictator for life, that later gets assassinated.) (I believe his name is
Tom Hollander) He was so over the top with his character it was good. Donald
Sutherland was terrible, to be fair, the character was bad, so I don't think
that it was all his fault, and Ralph Fiennes basically slept through this entire
film. He looked incredibly bored to be there and there was nothing to like about
his character either. But, just because the character of Junior really helped
this movie some, I really cannot give this category a zero, I mean I could, but
I really liked the character too much to. (1/2)
Direction-
Or lack there of in this case. This movie started at the end, went back to the beginning
then back to the end, then to the middle then back to the beginning again, and
then back to the end, confused? So was I. (0)
Story-
The story sounded descent enough. Its a political over throw story, where the
person who over throws the government becomes worse than the one he over threw.
I liked the story, but it didn't play out as well as it should have. I cannot
justify giving this category any rating, because it did sound like a pretty good
story, but it went no where. (0)
Expectations-
I expected something out of this movie. Ralph Fiennes is a good actor, Donald
Sutherland is an okay actor, you would think that something would come of this
movie. Sadly, this movie fell short of everything. (0)
Boring?- The term "Hell Yes" doesn't even describe how
boring this movie was. Movies shouldn't be a task to have to get through. I
found myself looking at the clock every couple of minutes seeing if time would
somehow speed up...it didn't...and this movie was one of the most boring I have
ever seen. (0)
Final
Score: 1/2 out of 5
Final Thoughts: I can really
justify giving this movie a DUNG! if I wanted to. It was bad, but I really like
the character of Junior the boy President (who wasn't much of a boy, being in
his thirties) He is the only reason to see this movie, but I am telling you
right now...be warned...you might want to scratch your eyes out if you watch
this movie.
