The Manchurian Candidate
(1962)
Starring: Frank Sinatra
Directed by: John
Frankenheimer
Rated PG-13
Genre: Political Thriller
Synopsis: A Korean War
veteran has been brainwashed suspects that another war hero is something
more, a trained assassin.
My Thoughts: This movie was
pretty generic. It was kind of fun to watch, just because it was made in
the 60's and it was interesting to see the communist scare that was occurring
then.
Scorecard
Acting-
Sinatra plays Major Marco who was a POW during the Korean War, not a good
job by Sinatra. He did a decent enough job, but the person that really
carried this movie is Lawrence Harvey who played Sgt. Shaw, the acting all
together looked sloppy at times, and grand at others, so I guess they
cancel each other out. (1/2)
Direction- Frankenheimer has put out some good movies in
his time, hell, even my time he has. This one wasn't his best directing
job. The actors didn't have chemistry, the story flipped and flopped and
made it a little hard to follow. (0)
Story-
I really like this story. A sergeant saves and entire regimen of his
fellow soldiers from a POW camp. They were all being brain-washed and the
sergeant really isn't who he seems to be. (1)
Expectations- I was really hoping this movie would be
awesome. I was disappointed. This movie should have been so much better. (0)
Boring?- To an extent this movie has boring moments. But it
is a political movie, so it has to build a story, but there were some
times that the movie just flat out dragged. (1/2)
Final
Score: 2 out
of 5
Final Thoughts: This movie
was good for its time. Sadly, its time has passed. The remake (made in
2004) was so much better.
