The Manchurian Candidate
(2004)
Starring:
Denzel Washington, Liev Shrieber, Jon Voight
Directed by:
Jonathan Demme
Rated R
Genre:
Political Thriller
Synopsis:
During the Gulf War a platoon of soldiers were captured and brain washed
by a large corporation. When one of the last two soldiers shows up as a
vice presidential candidate, the only one left tries to exploit the
corporation that has been brainwashing people.
My Thoughts:
This is a remake of the same name from 1962, this was actually more
interesting than the original movie. Let's see how this adds up.
Scorecard
Acting-
Denzel was very impressive in this movie, he played the weary Major Marco.
The chemistry of the actors was amazing, they all played off each other
very well. Liev Shrieber who played Sgt. Shaw was easily his greatest
acting job he has done. (1)
Direction-
Jonathan Demme is the same guy that directed Silence of the Lambs, which
is one of my favorite movies. He did a great job in directing this movie.
Everything just clicked for this movie. (1)
Story-
I really liked this story. I liked it even more than I liked the original
story. It was modernized, which is probably why it clicked more with me. (1)
Expectations-
I watched this movie after I saw the original. I was expecting it to be
better, it was. (1/2)
Boring?-
Yes, it is. But there is a point to the boringness. (is that a word?) I
really wish that I could give this category a better rating, because there
was a point to some of the slow parts, but I can't rightfully give it a
good rating. (0)
Final
Score: 3
1/2 out of 5
Final Thoughts:
This movie was better than the original, to a point, if you were born in
the time of the Red Scare (communism for you young'ns) you will most
likely enjoy the original movie more than this one. If you were born
during the fall of communism or after, you will enjoy this one more than
the original. Two different generations, with two different movies, with
the same basics. Strange.
