The
Mask of Zorro
Starring: Antonio Banderas,
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Anthony Hopkins
Directed by: Martin Campbell
Rated PG-13
Genre: Action/Adventure
Synopsis: Zorro has not been
seen in a decade, and the tyrannical government of Mexican controlled
California has its citizens begging for the return of the masked hero.
My Thoughts: Everything just
clicked in this movie. This was by far one of the better movies to come
out of Hollywood in 1998 (the same year as Saving Private Ryan and
Shakespeare in Love).
Scorecard
Acting-
Zeta-Jones was at her finest in this film, easily. Banderas was a joy as
the down on his luck theif that turns his life around, and Anthony Hopkins
was GOLD as the original Zorro teaching the new Zorro all his tricks.
These actors really had good chemistry together. (1)
Direction-
While there were a few questionable parts, for the most part, this movie
flowed very well and had very few down times. (1)
Story- This
story was written very well. The characters were very likeable and the
action was perfectly spaced apart. (1)
Expectations-
This movie met all expectations I had for it. It didn't surpass them
though. (1/2)
Boring?-
This movie has a running time of almost 140 minutes. So there has to be
some boring times, I was expecting there to be, but sadly, there were a
few too many boring parts to give this film a full star. (1/2)
Final
Score: 4 out of 5
Final Thoughts: This movie
was very well done. There are a few parts that have you rolling your eyes,
but the movie is still very fun to watch, it tells a great story and the
acting was great. What more can you really ask for a movie? If you have
yet to see this movie, I highly recommend that you see this movie at least
once in your life.
