Night at the Museum

 Starring: Ben Stiller

 Directed by: Shawn Levy

 Rated PG

 Release Year: 2006

 Genre: Comedy

Synopsis: Larry Daley (Stiller) takes a job as a night watchman for the Natural History Museum in New York and he soon finds out that things aren't what they seem at night in the museum.

My Thoughts: I have liked most of Ben Stiller movies, this is one of the movies that was fun to watch, but wasn't a complete hit like others he has had.

   Scorecard

Acting- Ben Stiller plays a divorced father that can't seem to keep a job, but finally takes a job as a night security guard for the Natural History Museum, while Stiller really isn't known for his "acting abilities" he always seems to do a good job with what he is given, this is no different. Special appearances by Owen Wilson as Jedediah the crazy cowboy and Robin Williams as Teddy Roosevelt both did good jobs, then Dick van Dyke and Mickey Rooney as the old and mean security guards were fun to watch, acting in this movie all around was very enjoyable.      Direction-  Shawn Levy (Pink Panther and Cheaper by the Dozen) does a pretty good job in his direction, there are a few things that people can complain about, like the movie seeming to move a little too fast, there were parts of the movie that seemed rushed and it hurt the overall flow of the movie, but Levy still did a decent enough job for this movie to be watchable. (1/2)

Story- This is a movie based on a book. I have not read the book, but the story is good enough to keep anyone entertained. A down on his luck "loser" takes a job as a night watchman at a museum and soon finds out that the things in the museum come to life after closing time, hilarity ensues. Like I said earlier, I have not read the book so I don't know if the ending was different in the book from the movie, I wasn't a huge fan of the abruptness of the end, but the story was still enjoyable and just plain fun to watch.     Expectations- This movie met all expectations I had for it. It was a fun family movie to watch, plain and simple. (1/2)

Boring?- This category is interesting for this movie. This film had some very dull moments that hurt the flow of the movie, but there weren't a lot of them. With a running time of almost 110 minutes, it seems like there would be plenty of content to this movie, but for some strange reason I didn't feel satisfied when the credits started rolling. There could have been much more added and some taken away, so sadly it is going to hurt the rating. (1/2)

 Final Score: 3 1/2 out of 5

Final Thoughts: I liked this movie, it was very fun to watch and I would recommend it to just about anyone, but for some strange reason, there is something about this movie that keeps me from giving it a better rating. It was very enjoyable, but it kind of leaves you empty.
