Superman Returns

Superman Returns

Starring: Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth, Kevin Spacey

Directed by: Bryan Singer

Rated PG-13

Synopsis: After leaving Earth to go and see if his home planet Krypton was still around, Superman Returns to Earth to save the day from the diabolical Lex Luthor and his evil plan.

My Thoughts: I wasn't a huge fan of this movie. Here is why...

 Scorecard:

Acting - Brandon Routh was an interesting choice for Superman, I think that he did a good enough job not to hurt his chances of making another one. Kate Bosworth was TERRIBLE as Lois Lane, now I can't really decide on if it is her fault or if it is the fault of the writer for making her just an unlikable character. Kevin Spacey did a good job as Luthor, but not as great as I thought it could have been. (1/2)

Direction - Superman movies basically write themselves. I really didn't have a problem of the direction of this movie. I think that Bryan Singer did a good enough job not to hurt the rating. (1)

Story - Ah....where to begin...the story was bad. There were way too many inconsistencies and too many parts that just didn't make sense, and a few parts where they should have gone into more detail. Personally I would have enjoyed this movie more if they told more of the story of why he left in the first place, and not just say he left and now he is back. There were too many parts that had me scratching my head or rolling my eyes, so I can't give a good rating here. (0)

Expectations - I really didn't have a whole lot of expectations for this movie. From some of the previews I saw, it looked way to cartoonie and I was right. (1/2)

Boring? - For the most part, this film wasn't overly boring. But it had a lot of slow time, and a lot of times where you just can't follow the movie because they don't explain things very well. (1/2)

 Final Rating: 2 1/2 out of 5

Final Thoughts: This movie was just average. Its a shame really, because I think that this could have been very good. If they would have made Lex Luthor into the evil genius that he is, instead of turning him into a laughing stock, Kevin Spacey would have ruled the screen. Alas, it didn't happen. I was impressed with Brandon Routh as Superman/Clark Kent, and thought he did a pretty good job, especially for someone who hasn't been on the silver screen before. I also liked the character of Richard (played by James Marsden) and thought it was a nice touch. Overall though, the movie was just average at best.
