Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Talladega Nights
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

 Starring: Will Ferrell

 Directed by: Adam McKay

 Rated PG-13

Genre: Comedy

Synopsis: Ricky Bobby is the best stock car driver around, his friend Cal always helps him get to the winners circle. Until a gay French formula-one driver comes to town and threatens Ricky Bobby's very existence.

My Thoughts: I am a huge Will Ferrell fan, this movie was pretty funny, but it really didn't live up to the hype. It was good, but not great.

   Scorecard:

Acting- Ferrell as always brings everything to the table and delivers a funny performance. John C. Reilly plays Cal and does a pretty good job, but the people that tear everything down in this movie have to be Gary Cole (who plays Ricky Bobby's dad) and Michael Clarke Duncan (who plays Ricky Bobby's crew chief), those two even with limited time on screen both do great jobs in their respective roles. (1)

Direction- There was no real direction to this movie. This movie went everywhere and nowhere at the same time. There was no real complete flow to the movie. But was still good enough to keep the movie going. (1/2)

Story- A movie about NASCAR...how could that not get over? Well, the story was there...nothing real special about it. Man is a winner, goes crazy, becomes loser, loses everything, triumphs in life, and becomes a winner again...at least that's sort of how things go. (1/2)

Expectations- I had very high expectations for this movie, this movie was gold in the preview department, but like most great previews, they show all the funny parts in the movie in the 90 second preview. (0)

Boring?- Sadly, yes, this movie was very dull at times and was never great, just because the fact that 90 percent of the funny parts where shown in the previews. But was still a pretty good movie to watch. (1/2)

  Final Score: 2 1/2 out of 5

Final Thoughts: If you still go see this movie, I urge you to stay during the credits when they have bloopers going, there is one in there mentioning Big Red gum that is the highlight of the entire movie. Just because I gave this an average rating doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy this movie, it was still an enjoyable movie, there was just nothing spectacular about it.
