Troy

Starring: Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom

 Directed by: Wolfgang Peterson

 Rated R

 Original Release Year: 2004

 Genre: Action

Synopsis: Paris, the son of the King of Troy falls in love with the Helen, the wife of the King of Sparta, and this sparks a war of epic proportions.

My Thoughts: This movie doesn't follow true to the story Helen of Troy, or more precisely the Iliad, but this movie was seriously fun to watch.

   Scorecard

Acting- Brad Pitt played Achilles and in my opinion was the perfect choice for the job, Eric Bana played Hector a prince of Troy and brother to Paris who was played by Orlando Bloom. The cast of this movie was selected very well, and everyone did excellent in the parts they were given. My personal favorite was Peter O'Toole as King Priam, he just did a wonderful job as a king that is torn between his kingdom and his sons. (1)

Direction- This film had some shaky direction. Wolfgang Peterson has done some really good movies (Air Force One comes to mind), but Peterson usually adds some things that really don't need to be added to the story. While it isn't always the directors fault, this time it was. He adds some over the top things that sort of took away from the feel of the movie, but the direction was good enough to keep the movie flowing. (1/2)

Story- How can you go wrong with one of the greatest stories of all time? Sadly, you can go astray really fast, as some of this movie did. The writers of this movie humanized Achilles and gave him feelings when they should have had him be a heartless killing machine like he was supposedly to be. I really didn't have a problem with the way they did it per se, but it sort of hurt the story and strayed from the Iliad a little too much. (1/2)

Expectations- I was hoping this movie would be fun to watch, it was very entertaining. (1/2)

Boring?- With a running time of a little over 160 minutes you would think it would be incredibly boring. Strangely it wasn't. While there were some parts that dragged a little, it really didn't take away from the overall movie. I was interested throughout the entire movie. (1)

   Final Score: 3 1/2 out of 5

Final Thoughts: This film was blasted by a lot of people, and I can understand why, but I still really enjoyed this movie and there isn't anything anyone can say to change my mind about it. Sorry Casey.
