My Thoughts:
I am telling you people right now, I am going to get a lot of flack for
this review. Be prepared to be mad at me. I am going to take on the
biggest classic movie of all time.
Scorecard
Acting-
Judy Garland stars as Dorothy Gale a young orphan who is taken in by her
Aunt and Uncle. In the time of overacting, Garland does nothing but
overact, and it seems like every time she is on the screen she is over
acting to her hearts content, but I cannot blame her for that, because
that is what everyone did back then. (1/2)
Direction-
I have no complaints with the direction, and even if I did, I would be
mobbed and lynched because he is perhaps the least known director that has
done two of the biggest films of all time. He also directed Gone with the
Wind. Fleming did a good job here, the story flowed nicely, so I cannot
complain too much. (1)
Story-
A young orphan and her dog go to the magical world of Oz where they meet
some strange characters in order to defeat the wicked witch. This story
was not written all that well, and was really not played out all that
well. This story was well before its time, but not in a good way. (0)
Expectations- What do you expect when people claim that
this is the greatest movie ever made. I don't agree. I was not at all
impressed with what I got, in fact I am going to go out on a limb and say
this movie is the biggest over promoted movie of all time, while I can see
how people do like it, I just didn't. (0)
Boring?-
In my opinion this film was 100 minutes of sheer boredom. There was really
nothing exciting about this movie and there were so many parts of people
just walking and walking and walking...in my honest and wholehearted
opinion, I was bored out of my mind watching this film the first time, and
when I finally tried to stomach it for a second and third and fourth, it
was no different. (0)
Final
Score: 1 1/2

Final Thoughts:
Let the hate mail come in. I would love to know what was so enjoyable
about this movie. It is called one of the greatest films ever made, and I
just do not understand why, there were annoying characters, there was a
paper thin story, over acting galore, there was nothing I found worth
watching in this movie, and I know that I will get a lot of hate mail for
this one, so be it.
